Our Scartho shop celebrates its 15th birthday today.

Second Gear, our shop in Pinfold Lane, Scartho, is celebrating its 15th birthday today.

The premises used to be a former Post Office, and was generously donated to the hospice by Hillary Trotter after her husband was cared for by us.

It was officially opened on November 26, 2001 by actress and singer Barbara Dickson, fast becoming a popular destination for shoppers, and is now firmly an integral part of Scartho’s community.

Many of the original team of volunteers still work in the shop, led by volunteer manager Jean Frith.

She said: “We are very excited and honoured to have celebrated such a milestone. The shop is very well supported by the local community, and we enjoy welcoming customers old and new.

“Scartho is a wonderful place to be in, and Second Gear is the shop for you if fashion is your passion!

“People donate a lot of nice things, and there’s always lots of interesting things in stock.”

In addition to their hard work at the shop, the “band of sisters”, as they call themselves, have held a staggering 27 fashion shows over the last 15 years, raising more than £100,000 for the hospice.

Second Gear is hosting a Christmas Coffee Morning and Mini Clothes Show on Wednesday, December 7 from 10.30am in the Methodist Church Hall, Scartho, just around the corner from the shop. All are welcome to attend. Tickets, costing £3.50, are available to purchase from Second Gear.
