Local rock n’ roll enthusiasts took to the dancefloor at Cleethorpes’ Moon on the Water venue to raise money for St Andrew’s Hospice at a special night that also featured a live performance from Glenn Darren and the Krew Katz.

Husband and wife duo Mike and Julie Spencer organised the night, with Mike also being DJ on the evening, spinning some classic American rock n’ roll from the 1950s.

And revellers really got into the spirit of things, dressing up in poodle skirts and saddle shoes for the ladies and sharp suits for the gents, whilst they jumped, jived and wailed their way through the night.

Live entertainment was provided by the superb Glenn Darren and the Krew Katz, a real throwback to the sounds of the 50s.

Mike was delighted to have the band in Cleethorpes for the fundraiser.

He said: “We were looking for a band that we knew could pack the dancefloor and Glenn and the Krew Katz are perfect for delivering a no-nonsense set of classic hits.

“It is pure 50s rock n’ roll and they always give 100%.”

Lead singer Glenn Darren spoke about what led him to taking up a career as a singer, which has seen the band sell more than 1,000 copies of their debut album.

“I was entered in a karaoke competition at one of my local rock n’ roll venues and that is where I caught the singing bug,” he said.

“Some of my friends in the music business encouraged me to take up singing more seriously, so I looked around for more like-minded folk to form a band and that is how the Krew Katz were born.

“We made a CD of us performing some of our favourite songs to help promote the band and they sold really well.

“Over the past two years our bookings have come thick and fast and we have played all over the country.

“We always enjoy coming to Cleethorpes – there’s a very good rock n’ roll crowd here.”

All funds raised on the night went to support the work of St Andrew’s Hospice locally. Mike and Julie also run regular classes at Moon on the Water on a Monday night, specialising in swing and jive music. More details can be found at jumpjive.webs.com.
