Andy’s Children’s Services
At Andy’s Children’s Services we care for children and young adults whose lives will sadly not be as long as they should be. We help families to “make each day count” and enable every child to live life to the fullest, creating lasting memories and leaving their mark on the world.
Based in Grimsby, we offer free palliative care to children living in North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, Hull and the East Riding, both at our hospice and in their own homes. We welcome children from birth to the age of 25, when they transition to our adult services at St Andrew’s Hospice.
We offer a number of services to meet the needs of all local children and their families who are affected by a life-limiting condition throughout their journey and tailor the care we provide to each child as an individual, always remembering to inject a healthy dose of fun and laughter:
Respite care in your home
This can include short periods of time delivering therapeutic play activities, going for walks and visiting local amenities and giving you time to take a break. Overnight stays in your home may also be possible depending on individual circumstances.
Supporting you with attending appointments, trips and special family occasions.
Therapeutic group sessions
We will be running a range of small therapeutic and creative groups relevant to you and your child’s needs either within the hospice or within a local community setting. These may include arts and crafts, music and social interactions with others. We are also intending to reopen the hydrotherapy spa pool at this time.
End of life care
When a child is nearing the end of their life every moment counts, and when you’re at Andy’s we’ll make sure you don’t have to face it alone. Our dedicated, specialist care team will make your child as comfortable as possible right to the end, and provide you with the opportunity to make the most of your precious remaining time together.
The time immediately following the loss of a child can be an overwhelming battle of emotional and practical demands on the newly bereaved parents. The Butterfly Suite offers an alternative to a funeral home, where you can spend much needed time saying goodbye in our peaceful setting, without the interruptions of everyday life. Our Family Support team will be on hand to help you with any questions you may have and the Bereavement Team will be in touch to make sure you are coping with this new grief, and refer you for Bereavement Support if appropriate.
Andy’s Children’s Services are part of the wider family of St Andrew’s Hospice. We were rated “Good” In our last Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in 2015 and “Outstanding” for the care provided. Read the report here.
