Family support

Our Family Support and Welfare Service cares for people of all ages who are living with the effects of a life-limiting illness as well as members of their family. This support is available throughout an adult or child’s illness and beyond.

Our team of social workers, social welfare officers and our spiritual care lead will work closely with you to provide practical, emotional, psychological and spiritual support.

Counselling and Support Service

We offer one-to-one support here in the hospice and at home.  The Support and Welfare social workers provide a range of individual, group and family support, including advice and guidance to patients, families and carers.

We try to cover a range of topics to help with the day-to-day issues that you may be facing, including advice and support for carers, assistance with housing issues, signposting for legal advice (e.g. power of attorney), wills. We also advocate on behalf of patients, carers and family members to make sure your voices, needs and experiences are heard by the wider health community.

Spiritual Care

Our Spiritual Care Lead provides spiritual, religious and psychological support to patients and their families at any point of their illness and beyond into bereavement.

Spiritual care services are available to people of faith or no faith who would like to talk through issues relating to the impact their illness has on their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

Welfare Benefits Service (adults only)

The Macmillan Social Welfare Officers provide a comprehensive benefit support service for adult palliative care patients in the community and hospice, including individuals living with and beyond cancer and their carers. They also provide information on a range of grants available and advice on issues including funeral poverty.

The Support & Welfare team also organise and support our bereavement services and carer support groups.
