Hospice volunteer Mike Howden received a community award last night.

Hospice volunteer Mike Howden was one of 13 award winners at the Yarborough Academy Community Hero Awards 2016 last night.

Mike, who creates all of our graphic designs and also volunteers in Appetite, our servery, was nominated by Compass FM radio presenter Ross Carrick.

The awards ceremony was hosted by pupils who conducted all the research, and did all of the hard work themselves.

The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Christina McGilligan-Fell, was the guest of honour.

Accepting his award from pupils Corey, Jessica, Emma and Travis, Mike said: "What a wonderful evening. The fact this has been organised by the children themselves makes it even more moving."

  • Miss Stamp, Yarborough Academy governor, who received a lifetime achievement award
