Two local London Marathon runners have completed the 26.2-mile race around the capital and raised over £5,500 for the hospice in the process.

North East Lincolnshire Council Chief Executive Rob Walsh and hospice supporter Paul Welsh both completed the famous race on Sunday 28th April, and their fundraising amounts will make a massive difference to the hospice.

Rob completed the marathon in 4:23:43, with Paul following in 5:33:44. They are both obviously delighted to have completed the challenging 26.2-mile route, but also with their fundraising totals.

“I had to really dig in at the London Marathon, especially in the second half of the race,” said Rob.

“It was just one of those days, where you had to put that little bit extra in to get over the finish line.

“But it was worth every ounce of pain because approximately £5,000 has been raised for St Andrew’s Hospice, which is absolutely amazing.

“Thank you to all of those who sponsored me, encouraged me, and supported me along the way.”

For Paul, his main target was being able to run the race all the way through, an achievement he managed in style.

“My main aim when I set out was to run the whole marathon, no matter what the time,” said Paul.

“I did that and I enjoyed every minute of it – I can’t stop smiling!

“I must be mad for attempting the London Marathon but I have done it now and raised some great funds for the hospice too.”
