Apprenticeship Week - Sam's Apprenticeship Journey

Sam is head of communications and works within the income generation team at the hospice. Last year, she had the opportunity to have some professional coaching, which she described as "life changing".

She said: "My coach was fantastic and inspired me to see things from a different perspective, whilst also equipping me with new management and leadership skills and improved confidence in the workplace. I would love to be able to share this new knowledge more widely across my team and organisation to help others in the same way it has helped me, so when this apprenticeship came up, I jumped at the chance."

We were fortunate to gain funding from an external organisation through a levy transfer, and after Sam applied and had some online information sessions to make sure it was the right fit for her, she was accepted! She stated that the hospice have been "very supportive" and that her aim is to "bring new skills into the organisation which can benefit staff and volunteers more widely".

She added: "Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to learn new skills which can be applied in your new or current workplace, whilst earning on the job. They can be very flexible, so work around your schedule, and provide real-world tools which help bolster your career prospects. If you have the opportunity, then go for it!"
