Grant-giving body shows its support for St Andrew's.

Patients at St Andrew’s Hospice have received a £10,000 boost to aid their health and well-being.

Help For Health, a regional grant-giving organisation, answered the hospice’s call for a wide range of specialist gym equipment.

In March this year, The Retreat – a purpose-built centre focusing on holistic care and the well-being of patients – opened at the hospice in Peaks Lane, Grimsby.

It was the second phase of its two-year £6.5-million redevelopment at the site, transforming the old hospice housed in a former working man’s club into a specially designed state-of-the art facility.

Hospice care is holistic, meaning it centres on the person as a whole and is not solely medical; The Retreat includes a gym and dance studio, and offers hydroptherapy, complementary therapy and more.

Help For Health has granted a total of £10,001.02 to The Retreat (above, pictured, Jane Whenham-White, head of income generation at the hospice).

Dr Andrew Milner, chairman, said: “Help For Health has been delighted to support St Andrew’s Hospice because of the vital work which is undertaken in providing high quality care to those with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

“Trustees recognise the reliance of the hospice on non-statutory funding to ensure it can continue to improve the facilities and care provided – and they regard the work undertaken by St Andrew’s as absolutely vital to the community.

“The new facilities are a huge improvement and provide staff with the right environment for providing quality care.

“A great example of how the hospice provides more than the expected is the Lymphoedema clinic. It provides essential treatment which is not available elsewhere in the community and in particular aids hugely rehabilitation following treatment.”

Help For Health was founded following the merger of health cash plan businesses The Health Scheme and BHSF.

Help For Health now uses its funds to support the health and well-being of people in Northern Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire in a wide variety of ways. Support has included grants for medical research and equipment, as well as facilities.
