As part of Hospice Care Week, our Head of Retail explains why we need you to volunteer.
We need you to keep our onsite shop open!
Earlier this year, our brand new Book and Gift Store here in Peaks Lane officially opened, stocking a range of new products especially hand-picked for our customers, from greetings cards and umbrellas to toys and candles.
Bookworks can also browse through hundreds of pre-loved books, and there are dedicated clothing and children’s sections too, stocking the bargains you’ve come to expect from our other shops around the area.
And now we want your help. We need volunteers to help keep regular opening hours for the public. If you can spare just two hours a week or several, we are looking forward to hearing from you.
An open day for prospective volunteers is being held on Friday, October 7 from 10am to 4pm at the shop. Just pop in or ring Simon Vicary, the hospice’s Head of Retail, on 01472 350908 to find out more.
Simon said: “Before the hospice was redeveloped, there was a small area inside the reception area where goods were sold. Our new offering is a separate shop, matching the state-of-the-art facilities we are so proud of to help people with life-limiting illnesses.
“Volunteers are the backbone of St Andrew’s and help provide vital funds for the hospice to continue to provide first-class care in does in the local community.
“We really want to be able to open the shop during set, regular hours. At the moment, it’s somewhat sporadic and we want to give our customers the best, so we are appealing to the public for help.
“It could be that you have a couple of hours a week to spare, or several – it’s quite flexible and we’d be delighted to hear from you, regardless. The hospice provides an amazing facility within our community, which is free for patients, and our shops are an important part of raising funds.
“You would become a key member of the team, helping the hospice continue to make each day count for local people.”
Mr Vicary added: “As well as people to work with us, we are always looking for things to sell, so whether you have a dining room table you don’t want or you’re having a clear-out of your clothes, we’d gratefully accept your donation.”
