Over the last 4 years, Greg Stratford and his brother-in-law Alan Rowson have dedicated their time to fundraising for St Andrew’s Hospice.

Every December since 2016, this pair have dressed up in their fanciest frocks to raise money for their local hospice. The idea for a themed fundraising day called ‘Days Of Madness’ started when they both took their grandchildren to the Panto in Hull in 2016 dress as two elves. This fancy dress fun day then progressed as they were Pirates on parade in Cleethorpes in 2017. Then in 2018 they dressed up as the Ugly sisters and then late last year in 2019 they decided they’d channel their inner superheroes and become Batman & Robin.

One thing led to another and Greg and Alan decided they’d take this year’s fundraising to the next level. As big fans of the British Television Sitcom - Only Fools & Horses, they thought it would be a fantastic idea to re-enact the famous Batman and Robin scene.

However, they certainly are not ones to go about it half-hearted. So they contacted the Mayor of Grimsby to get involved, who was more than happy to join in the duo’s fundraising activities. They put together a script and with the help of a cast, they got to work filming. They also managed to get plenty of local businesses to help, including Cleethorpes Mobility, Trotters Traders, Jason’s Auto’s & Van Hire, Simon Thorpe Motors and many others.

The pair didn’t stop there though, after they had finished filming they then thought it would be a fantastic idea to get their closest friends and family together for a premiere night to see the finished clip. On the 7th February 2020, the Grimsby Town Hall held ‘Day’s Of Madness - Only Two Fools & No Horses Charity Night’. During the night they showcased the hilarious parody they had filmed, which can be seen on the St Andrew's Hospice Facebook page.

They also held a raffle, however much to Greg’s surprise was a special present that the staff at the Grimsby Town Hall had arranged. He was gifted with a message by none other than Sir David Jason. With the message stating that “Despite facing your own challenges, you have put a smile on everyone’s face and that you are raising money in the meantime so that deserves a Lovely Jubbly!”.

Greg and Alan’s fundraising total came to an incredible £7332 for the Batman & Robin antics. The total that Greg and Alan have raised for the hospice in all of their fundraising activities to date is £21,000. This will go a long way in helping St Andrew’s Hospice to continue to provide a comprehensive range of care for patients of all ages with life-limiting/threatening illnesses as well as the support for those who care for them.
