240 people donned their glad rags on Friday to help us celebrate 40 years of St Andrew’s Hospice at our Ruby Ball. And celebrate they did, from beginning to end, this truly was a night to remember.
The Humber Royal Hotel looked its finest draped in ruby-themed decorations, and a classical duet played as guests arrived to enjoy their three course meal and evening of entertainment.
Richard Askam was our host for the night, bringing splendid humour and reminding us all the real reason we were there, to celebrate the hospice and the care it provides for local people, every day of the year. His relaxed style and amusing anecdotes were popular all-round and we’re sure everyone in the room learnt something from his pub-quiz style after-dinner talk.
We were also joined by stand-up comedian George Kavanagh, who entertained with a, slightly hap-hazard, game of Higher or Lower, which had the room tickled.
The Rumble Band then took to the stage with their stunning renditions of soul & Motown favourite hits. It didn’t take long for guests to fill the dancefloor and for the party spirit to take us through to the end of the night.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us for this very special event, as well as all those who donated prizes for the raffle and silent auction, and the co-op who donated and served the welcome drinks. Your generosity will help us to continue to care for local people.
