Last night saw the Grimsby Telegraph Heart of Your Community awards ceremony take place at The Pier, Cleethorpes.

In a glittering ceremony at Cleethorpes Pier last night, 12 local heroes were crowned in the Grimsby Telegraph's Heart of Your Community Awards.

Headline sponsored by the John Ross MBE Community Trust Fund, and supported by many other local businesses and organisations, the awards shone a light on those who have achieved over adversity or gone the extra mile to make their community a better place, reports the Telegraph today.

Four-year-old Sam Addison, who comes to the hospice, was awarded Child of Courage. His dad Jonathon said: "He has been through a lot; he has been through more than any four-year-old should."

Jane Whenham-White, the head of income generation at the hospice, won Services To Charity and the overall award of the evening, chosen by a judging panel.

As the ceremony drew to a close, Jane was presented with the Overall Award by last year's winners, Cath and Ken Homewood, from Grimsby Food Kitchen, and the Grimsby Telegraph's Michelle Hurst. Jane received a standing ovation.

She told the newspaper: "It was a great surprise. I feel very humbled. It's a privilege to have won these awards. I just want to pay tribute to other winners and nominees. It's difficult to compare services with each other as we are all so different."

Well done Sam and Jane!
