His garden design has 'wheely' caught people's imaginations...

Ted Ford, who regularly opens his beautiful gardens to the public to raise funds for St Andrew’s, has won not one but two gardening awards.

Ted, a long-term supporter of the hospice, has been crowned overall winner of the Grimsby Telegraph’s Glorious Gardens competition, as well as well as the category of best planter.

Ted, from Waltham, has been awarded £600 for his efforts – well done Ted, and to his wife Cynthia, for allowing him to disappear into the gardens for hours on end!

The competition saw the public and a judging panel cast votes. Ted created a giant wheel in his garden for the Queens 90th birthday and decorated it with colourful flowers.

He told the Telegraph: “It’s a great honour because North East Lincolnshire is a huge area. I made the wheel in my garage and I thought it was a nice and different way to celebrate the Queen's birthday. I'm pleased that I had the ability to make it work.”
