As part of national Volunteers' Week, each day we are highlighting areas of the hospice where your support is vital.

If you're a people person, then becoming a patient support volunteer could be for you.

We're on the look-out for people to join us in two areas: our well-being programme and in The Retreat, our state-of-the-art health and well-being centre.

  • If you have previous experience of working in care or supporting people, then the well-being programme is looking for you. We need volunteers who have excellent communication skills and who would like to support people in various activities to help them stay independent for as long as possible. The programme runs Monday to Friday, and this role involves meeting and greeting patients, preparing the drinks trolley, assisting patients with drinks and getting their lunch, helping during activities when required and supporting patients by listening. We are also looking for volunteers to establish and run a social coffee morning and a games afternoon for patients and carers.
  • If you're experienced in customer services or want to support people, then a volunteering role in The Retreat may be right for you. We are looking for volunteers who have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as IT skills as the role requires use of computer programmes. It also involves meeting and greeting patients, ensuring they are in the right place at the right time, offering and preparing refreshments when required, helping staff prepare therapy rooms, the gym and our pool and bathroom areas and more.

If these roles sound like you, please click here and fill out an application form, or call 01472 350908. We look forward to welcoming you.
