Dignity of St Andrew's patients enhanced thanks to Care Plus Group Charitable Trust donation

St Andrew’s Hospice is dedicated to providing safe and quality care and support to our patients and families.

In an effort to provide greater comfort, dignity and care to patients, the Adult Inpatient Unit recently received a donation from Care Plus Group Charitable Trust for the purchase of 12 portable shower/toileting chairs, with a generous discount provided by supplier ETAC.

Liz Braithwaite, Palliative Care Lead Nurse at St Andrew’s Hospice, said there had previously been four toileting chairs shared between the 12 bedrooms on the unit.

“We’re very fortunate that the Care Plus Group Charitable Trust has fulfilled our request for 12 shower commodes, which means there is now one for each room. They are very versatile, so can go under a shower but will also fit over a toilet seat.

“This will make a huge difference to the dignity and comfort of our patients, and we are incredibly grateful to the Care Plus Group Charitable Trust for their support.”

The Care Plus Group Charitable Trust is a grant-giving charity providing essential funds to individuals and community groups, helping them improve the lives of others across Lincolnshire.

This donation comes at a time within the hospice sector when the demand for services is increasing, whilst resources remain limited, and will help ease the burden on caregivers whilst upholding the dignity of and respect for patients.

Amanda Young, Care Plus Group Charitable Trust Trustee and CPG Stroke Coordinator, said: “It’s so nice to be able to fund something that provides dignity and comfort for all patients, rather than having to share resources.

“It’s a really nice piece of kit which fits in well with the environment and has a multitude of uses. It also means a reduction in the amount of transfers a patient has to do, which is really important when they’re in pain and will make a massive difference.”
